Kurbaan - Music Review
When terrorism is at the backdrop of the film, music needs to be composed keeping in mind the very fact. Karan Johar for the very first time tried his hand in terrorism and he has kept the music limited and of good quality. After the musical success of films like ‘Fashion’ and ‘Wake Up Sid’, composer Salim-Sulaiman has gone a long way and they have evolved as an eminent music composer. Kurbaan is a difficult theme as the music needs to be a combination of love and terror. Keeping a balance of the two, the music of Kurbaan has been composed and the outcome seems to be fabulous till now.
The expectation from the film is sky-high as the real life couple Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan are playing the pivotal role. The promo of the film has done its work and now the audience is looking forward to the movie. Coming to the music, the music of ‘Kurbaan’ has all the ingredients of a perfect music. Salim-Sulaiman’s music and Niranjan Iyengar’s lyrics has done the charisma. Singers like Sukhwinder Singh, Kailash Kher, Marianne D'Cruz Aiman, Salim Merchant, Vishal Dadlani, Sonu Niigaam, Shruti Pathak and Shreya Ghoshal have landed their magical vocals.
The album opens with Shukran Allah Wal-hamdulillah. If you like the song Subhan Allah from Fanaa then you will surely like Shukran Allah, which has a Sufi touch. Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal are in their romantic best and they have really put soul to the song. Salim caught the Arabic lines and the song was beautifully composed and sung. The music arrangements are tremendous and one would feel the essence of the song.
The second track Dua is a blend of disco and qawwali rendered by Sukhwinder Singh and Kailash Kher, while Marianne D’Cruz’s has put some English lines on the track. It has the power to set the dance floor on fire with fast musical arrangements. It is not like any other disco track but the combination of various genres of music has made it unusual.
Lyrics rule in the third track ‘Ali Maula’. Here one reminds God and seems like praying to Allha for blessings. Music is kept low in the track. This song again has a touch of Sufism. Chanted by Salim Sulaiman, it’s a low pace song and purely situational.
When one craves for some deviation and truly enchanting then the name that crosses our mind is Shruti Pathak. The fourth track ‘Rasiya’ has been crooned by Shruti who is best remembered for 'Mar Jaava' (Fashion) and 'Payaliya' (Dev D). The sound of clock striking tic tic and breaths of a lady at the backdrop has done a wonderful job. The song will definitely contribute to the plot of the film.
The last but not the least song of the album is the title track ‘Kurbaan Hua’. This rocking number has been sung by Vishal Shekhar. Kudos to him as he has been able to do full justice to the track and keep the pace of the film going. Love, hatred, fear, tension every emotion has been well expressed along with mind-blowing chorus.
On the whole, the album is pleasing. You will feel that keeping in touch with its music. Tracks like Shukran Allah and Kurban Hua rocks. The album has all the elements to hit the chartbuster. It is worth buying.
