Paa - Music Reviews

The father-son duo is ready to shock you with their stunning act. Abhishek Bachchan plays the father of Amitabh Bachchan in Paa. The movie, based on an unusual theme, is a challenging project by director R. Balki, who is just one movie old.

The music of the film is turning out to be a chartbuster; so who is the music composer? Well, the less said the better for this man who has more than 900 films to his credit till now - maestro Ilayaraja is the composer of memorable tunes of ‘Paa’ while lyrics are penned by poet-musician Swanand Kirkire.

The album’s first song is a euphonious number, Mudhi Mudhi Ittefaq Se, in the voice of Shilpa Rao, though the only disappointment is that it’s a short musical piece and runs hardly for three minutes. You shift to Shilpa’s gear and by the time you start enjoying the ride, the song ends. Bah!

After a melodious track, the album takes you into the world of kids with Halke Se Bole, undoubtedly a situational track with thought-provoking lyrics. Hichki Hichki comes next and the song sounds like another situational track sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. However, the album’s melodious strain continues without a hichki.

Gali Mudhi is the male version of Mudhi Mudhi Ittefaq Se and indeed Shaan’s best till date. The song succeeds in winning you over, though the lyrics are not sensuous or romantic. Enjoyed it! The kids’ chorus is back with Gumm Summ Gumm carrying forward the emotional theme of the album. The song bears the clear stamp of Ilayaraja. But it does remind of the famous Kuchi Kuchi Rakkama song from the film Bombay.

Here comes the must-hear track of the album, and try to guess the singer of Mere Paa? Amitabh Bachchan turns an incredible crooner for this sweet song that can bring tears to your eyes. And listen to the way a kid (Amitabh) praises his dear mother in front of his father (Abhishek).

It’s a Hollywood trend; otherwise in Bollywood, directors pay least interest in the theme songs. Full marks to R. Balki for conceiving the idea of Paa Theme song and to Ilayaraja for creating this track that’s not only rich in symphony but warms up the cockles of your heart.

One wouldn’t have expected ‘Paa’ music to be so soothing, balmy and refreshing, considering its theme, but the simple songs with their melodious strain and poignant appeal are sheer bliss to auditory senses.

Though most of the songs are situational, I will use two words to express the music of the movie - Loved it!
